MCM Comic Con: Birmingham

It’s been a really busy couple of weeks, what with work and Christmas preparations, so I haven’t had much time for blogging unfortunately. By the time I get home from work I’m usually too tired to do anything other than sit on the sofa and watch telly. I have so many plans for posts, so hopefully it’ll get better when I get into the routine.

I’ve almost finished my Christmas shopping, so that’s something to cross off my to-do list. I only have one or two presents left to buy now, and everything else is wrapped, which means I can avoid the December weekend crowds. I’ve also got a couple of weeks off starting on Christmas Eve, so I’ll have some time to relax.

A couple of weeks ago me and Andy went to Comic Con in Birmingham. We used the Bane and Poison Ivy costumes we wore in London, because we didn’t have time to make anything new, unfortunately. Next time we’re thinking of doing either Cable and Domino (Marvel), or Sally Jupiter and The Comedian (Watchmen), depending on whether we can get the costumes together. Here we are anyway:

Poison Ivy and Bane

This photo shows that Bane is 100% capable of lifting polystyrene. Hmmm…

It was a lot busier than it was last time, which made it quite difficult to see all the stalls, so we ended up missing quite a bit of stuff. We still bought more than enough though. I came home with a lot of comics and graphic novels, including a few Deadpools and the Daredevil Noir series. I also got these:

Yeah, they are Pokemon cards. Yeah, I am 23.

I’m definitely looking forward to going again, though I may consider Liverpool for next time, as it’s a lot nearer. I don’t mind the three hours travel time, but getting up at 6 on a weekend is a little bit painful.

Do you go to comic conventions? If you were to go, who would you go as?

  1. Is that a Miyazaki tote? I have a mighty need. O_O

Your costumes are cute. It kind of makes me miss cons, I haven’t been to one in several years. :/

  2. I have never ever been to a COMIC CON in my life! There was one that I was considering in going to and that was in San Bernardino, when the Ghost Adventures crew was there. Though, I had no one to go with and had no transportation to and from, so it was a waste of money. I really, really, really wanted to go though! A few of my friends in the past has tried to get to me to go but thought I was to huge (fat) to go as any character, and did not know what to go as. I guess I just got scared or cold feet to go to any of the Anime conventions. But still, would have loved to have gone to that SB COMIC CON one.

  3. That’s great that you’ve almost finished your Christmas shopping! I’ve barely started, and it’s slightly stressful trying to figure out gifts for everyone. I wish I was done already!

You guys look awesome as Poison Ivy and Bane! I love the Ghibli bag that you got. It’s so cute, and I’m such a big fan of Ghibli. I’ve even cosplayed from Spirited Away before! I don’t go to comic conventions, but I go to several Anime conventions each year. My next cosplay is a One Piece one πŸ™‚

  4. I went to a few cons: Akon and lastly Animefest, and each time I was something different. I like to think that I’m getting better at cosplay just because I’m making and thinking of my own cosplay different from others. I don’t necessarily make the items but I do go thrift shopping for them.

Glad you almost finished your Christmas shopping. The accident threw me back for a loop and I have to finish soon.

  5. That was a great idea to get all the shopping done early so you can avoid the crowds. It can get pretty hectic and makes the whole process a lot more stressful.

Even though you used the same costumes, they really look so cool. πŸ˜€ I am sure you will be able to do something different next time and can’t wait to see them! πŸ˜€

Eee. I love the goodies that you got. I absolutely adore the bag with all the cute characters on it. πŸ˜€

  6. Cons! I would love to go to one, but the only con I’m really interested in are the Harry Potter cons or the yaoi cons, hahaha! I hope to go to one of those one day πŸ™‚

Your costume looks awesome, and it’s great that you had a fun time! But I agree with you to going to one somewhere closer. Getting up early is not fun at all XD

  7. WOW that tote bag is so cute!!!!!!! I also think your cosplays are great ha! I’ve been to NYCC but I didn’t dress up, though if I were to do so I probably would go for Kushina from Naruto simply because I dig the red hair. ^_^ So much that it’s the name of my WordPress theme on my blog, haha.

  8. Aww! I hope you had lots of fun! I love your outfits! And he is definitely showing off his strength there πŸ˜‰

I haven’t gone to a convention as of yet, but am planning to go to one thats coming to my town next year :”)

    Happy holidays!
