Life Catch-Up: Where is May?

I wrote a post saying I’d written loads of posts, then I didn’t blog for two weeks. This seems to happen to me a lot. Every time I mention blogging more, life gets in the way.

I’d like to say I’ve been REALLY busy, but I haven’t really. I’ve been working and seeing friends and stuff, but I’ve spent most of my evenings watching Game of Thrones. It’s so unbelievably addictive!

I’ve also been doing this:

hello

Adult colouring. The best excuse to buy all the fine-liners in the world. (And I want ALL of them!)

Two weeks ago I went to Cleethorpes with some friends. As a kid, I absolutely loved Cleethorpes, to the point where I’d cry all the way home because we had to leave. However, as an adult I was disappointed. There were barely any shops or arcades there and it got boring very fast, unfortunately. We still managed to have a good day though, which we ended by watching old videos at mine. We’ve been friends for over 10 years, so there was a lot to cringe about!

The house situation has gotten much worse. Our letting agent decided they no longer want to let the property on behalf of the landlord, because the landlord isn’t willing to fix our roof, so we’re being transferred to a different letting agent. They sent us an absolutely awful letter, where they basically blamed us for the ceiling being soaking wet, even though a qualified roofer has found holes in the roof. They’re trying to pass it off as condensation (again), even though the ceiling’s dipping in the middle and everything’s soaked. I’ve seriously lost hope that there are any decent letting agents out there, as all we’ve had are people blaming us for something they’re unwilling to fix.

The landlord still won’t budge on the roof situation, and just keep putting everything off by saying they “need to discuss it further”. It’s ridiculous that we have to pay rent when they won’t pay to make it livable.

Which means I’m going to be moving again. Our contract ends in two months, and we definitely won’t be renewing anything with this landlord. This is not ideal. This is annoying. I really don’t want to spend all my weekends looking around houses again, and I really don’t want to do all the boring address-changing things like transferring home insurance and Virgin Media. Plus, yesterday we went to view two different houses – both were at the top end of our budget, and both were absolutely awful. One had stains all over the carpet, and the other had huge crack in the wall because of the leaky ceiling. Leeds is such an expensive place to live and prices just seem to be increasing.

Onto good things! Next Saturday I’m going on holiday! Andy’s family have booked a barge trip in Wales, so I’m going to be spending my week relaxing in the middle of a canal. As I can’t swim, I’m very nervous about this, but I’m sure it’ll be great fun. I’m really looking forward to a week where I don’t have to think about house problems, washing and tax returns – it’s going to be so amazing! There will still be scheduled posts for that week, and I will try to reply to comments, but I can’t guarantee what the signal will be like in the countryside.

Yesterday I went shopping for holiday clothes, because I only have about 4 pairs of jeans that fit me at the moment. I have put on so much weight, which is really annoying when you’re trying to save money. However, I bought some amazing clothes!

Now to review the goals I made for last month!

May Goals in Review

For May I made 4 last-minute goals. I’ve completed 2.5 of them. But I may have cheated slightly…

1. Sell my unwanted devices SORT OF
2. Open a help to buy ISA account YES!
3. Rewrite my ‘about’ page and edit my footer. Yes…
4. Fix my post archive. Hahaha hahaha hahaha. I can’t code…

I sold a phone and an iPod at CEX and got a voucher to spend in store, which I spent on Game of Thrones season 1-5 on Blu-ray. I opened my help to buy ISA account, which will hopefully mean my mortgage-saving improves. And now for the cheating. Yes, I have rewritten my about page and edited my footer, but I did this last night. In June…

Oh well, it’ll do.

Unfortunately, I’m really struggling to fix my post archive. I spent a couple of hours testing different codes, but none of them seem to work properly. In the end, I gave up and left it a mess. My old posts aren’t that good anyway!

P.S. Any help would be appreciated. 🙂

I’m not making any goals for June, as I go on holiday next Saturday, then come back to a week of birthdays, so I doubt I’ll have much time to focus on anything. I do however, already know what I’m going to attempt in July, so there’ll be a post about that later this month.

On a final note, me and Andy made a Pokemon YouTube channel, so please subscribe and hear my horrible voice!

How has your week/month been?

  1. Yikes that sucks about the house situation. I would be furious! I really hope you find something that’s affordable and not full of shit (excuse my langauge). I still live with my parents but the one thing that sucks is that cost of living in Sydney is also pretty crap.

If you need any help with the post archive let me know. I have too many posts to list every single one of them in my archive so I ended up building a custom sort of one that doesn’t give any of my posts much attention… Haha. It just provides a means of navigating to them but it’s by no means intuitive…

  2. I’ve been keeping up with Game of Thrones! It’s so exciting every time a new season comes out XD

That’s too bad Cleethropes was disappointing, but I’m glad you still had a fun day. I feel like many things I loved as a kid don’t seem as fun or special now. Either things changed or my standards are higher as an adult.

Wow, I can’t believe the landlord is so stubborn on the roof situation. That’s terrible that he won’t fix it and that you were blamed for the ceiling. How is that your fault at all?? Sorry to hear that you have to house search again. I hope you’ll find something much better though! Good luck!

Also, have fun on your holiday!

  3. I’m sorry to hear you are having problems with the house. Letting agencies are the worst! We had horrific condensation and when we lived in a flat despite keeping it well ventilated. We tried to do our best to control the mold because we thought it was our fault, then the day before we found out we found the manual for the property which said that there had been problems with condensation ever since it was built! And that’s proof that condensation isn’t just down to who ever lives in the property. I hope you managed to get it sorted.

I also want to set up a help to buy ISA. I hope you have a lovely time on your canal holiday. I’ve always thought it sounds like such a relaxing kind of holiday.

  4. Hope you have fun on holiday, you definitely seem to deserve a break given all the housing stress.

Really sorry about the housing situation. Landlords sometimes can really be the worst. Best of luck moving!

  5. Have fun on your hols! Wales is a place I’d love to visit one day.

Sucks about your housing situation, though. That landlord sounds like a major pain 🙁 I hope you will find something better than what you have now!

And woot for adult colouring book 😀 It’s not something for me, but I can see how they’d be great for those who are interested ^^

  6. I’m sorry to hear the roof situation still hasn’t been resolved. I genuinely don’t understand how some letting agents are allowed to stay in business. I hope it all gets sorted somehow. The landlord sounds like a bit of a stubborn git. I hope your holiday takes your mind of it, and when you come back from your lovely trip someone has an answer for you, or a solution as to who will fix the roof!
I’m watching your Pokémon video now! I’ll be sure to subscribe. Me and Matt put ourselves on a card ban because we spent so much money…..
