Life Catch-Up: I Regularly Have to Use Stairs Now

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, which explains the lack of blog activity. Also, the Internet was only installed here today and I have a hard time blogging on my phone. Excuses, excuses, I know. So this post is just a round-up of what’s been going on lately. Way. Too. Much.

The New House

We got the keys to the new house on the 22nd, so pretty much all of my free time has gone into packing and cleaning and shopping for furniture, the latter against Andy’s view that I don’t need another bookcase. I really did need another bookcase. And I’d love ANOTHER as well, but I’ll maybe wait until later to suggest that.

As I didn’t have any holidays left, I ended up having to clean the new house after work each night last week. I was also ill, which wasn’t ideal, but we managed to get everything done, early enough to start moving stuff in last Thursday. We’re very lucky that my Dad has a big van, and Andy’s Dad works in the car industry, so we didn’t have to mess about hiring somebody to move our stuff. It was all in by Saturday night, including our brand new king size bed, which I love. Sleeping close to somebody is so overrated! Give me space any day!

So far, I love the new house. We have a huge bedroom, huge bathroom, in fact, it’s all huge compared to the flat. We also have the scariest cellar in the world, but the less said about that the better. I’m forever going to be convinced that something is down there, so I never plan on using it. I’ve told Andy he can have it as his “man room”, if he can get used to the cobwebs and concrete. It’s probably just going to get used as a beer chiller, if anything.

I’ve not quite gotten used to the quiet yet, or the cold, but I’m sure I will in time. I’m really missing other people’s central heating at the moment. It will never be as warm here!

In other news, Andy’s Dad brought us the coolest moving present ever…

A 6ft 7” cutout of Chewbacca.

He now lives in the living room, so I can spend my nights alone terrified that someone’s watching me. I’m still not prepared for him to be there when I turn around – he’s made me jump so many times this week! It’s pretty hard to get used to Chewbacca living with you, apparently.

The Old Flat

We handed our flat keys in on Thursday morning. It was strange seeing it so empty. It reminded me of when we first moved in, and how excited we were to live there. I thought we’d be there for a few years, until we bought a house at least, but unfortunately it didn’t work out that way. I was a little sad, to be honest, but then I heard the music coming from upstairs and knew we’d made the correct decision. The new house may not feel like home yet, but at least we won’t have drunk idiots crying, shouting and passing out in front of our door.

The Fun Stuff

Holidays restarted in March, so I’ve had this week off to get the old flat sorted, and have a bit of time to myself. I spent the day in the pub with some friends on Wednesday, which was great. A magician, who was for some reason doing the rounds in Wetherspoons, made a coin appear in my hand without going anywhere near me. I’m still freaked out now.

I also went to a friend’s house for a gaming evening yesterday, which was hilarious. We played Super Smash Bros on the GameCube and we all got really competitive. I played as Kirby and ate everyone. I still lost though. Go me!

Next Saturday I’m going to Comic Con, and the week after I’m seeing the Rocky Horror Show, so I should have plenty to blog about.

How was your week?

  1. You shouldn’t feel bad about not blogging from your phone.. I would never even consider it! What a pain in the arse that would be.

The new house sounds exciting especially with the new bed and a creepy cellar.. I think I’d love to have something like that to hide in during our summers. I assume it would stay relatively cool.

I know the feeling of getting used to a new place. I rented a small 1 bedroom and study apartment for a year with my boyfriend and it was quite tiny, I didn’t mind though. It was nice people able to see everything from the one spot and know there was no one lurking around but like your situation, it was loud. We lived across the road from a pub and they had bands every Fri – Sunday that would finish around midnight and then the drunken idiots would fall out into the street. Then there was the street sweeper at 4am…

We bought a 4 bedroom, two storey house that is 3 times the size of that apartment and it took a lot of getting used to. It always felt like we were housesitting someone else’s house for months. Eventually I got used to it and now it’s just home.

  2. Is that Liverpool Comic Con? If it is then I might bump into you because I’m going! I’ll be the only one not in cosplay. 😉

Yay for the new house! It’s so exciting isn’t it? I’m also getting used to having to walk up stairs and not having my flat heated by other people’s heating. It’s so cold in here!

  3. Sounds like everything is coming along quite nicely for you guys! I’m glad you were able to move away from drunken idiots who only cared about themselves. In fact, I had a chance to be roomates with a couple of guys who loves listening to music. I was talking to the one who put the ad up and he seemed to like me and said if you like music, any kind of music, you’re welcome here. That was kind of cool. But I opted to stay and help with the family who took me in. Sadly, that didn’t last long. I was only there for a year. Then I got my own place, so I know what it’s like for you guys to miss the flat and not miss it. I kind of miss my old apartment, but I don’t miss it. I really liked the privacy that came with the apartment, but at the same time, I was struggling.

Anyways, my dad had a cardboard cut out of Elvis Presley (he’s a HUGE fan) just like the Chewbacca. Even I got scared a few times thinking it was someone in the house then I realized “It’s just that stupid cardboard of Elvis.” Haha. Eww, basements. My dad has a 100+ year old house in California and that has a basement (believe it or not)! It freaks me out because the staircase is so narrow. It’s also rather drafty in that basement and the thing of it is, there are no windows!

I think I know how that magician got that penny in your hand. Haha. I love magic tricks. They’re awesome.

  4. Listen, you can never have too many bookcases. If my mother didn’t insist on hoarding wardrobes I would chuck all of them out, pile my clothes in one box and use the rest of the space for bookcases. Plural.

Uhhhh, can I have that cutout of Chewbacca?! How freaking awesome. Haha. It would probably freak me out at night because I would forget it’s there and I usually wake up in the middle of night.

I wonder if that’s the same magician who appeared in the pub I was at a couple of weeks ago. Probably not, but he was casually sitting there and then all of a sudden he was doing card tricks. He said his name was Phoenix, but I bullied him out of his actual name which was Matthew. Lol. Love GameCube!

    Have fun at Comic Con!

  5. Congrats on getting everything moved into the new house! My husband never feels like I need another bookshelf, but I always prove him wrong by buying one and immediately filling it up with things. There is always a need for more shelves! I love the quiet of being in a house. I definitely don’t miss all the noises from other people when I lived in an apartment.

I think that’s funny that Andy’s dad bought you guys a Chewbacca cutout! 6’7″ is huge! The IT guys at work have a life-sized cutout of Dr. Who, and it used to freak me out all the time. I’d turn the corner and think there was a person there.

Have fun at the Comic Con on Saturday!

  6. Congrats on the move, glad things seem to be going fairly smoothly. Don’t worry about not having enough time to blog, life gets in the way sometimes. It’s also good you got to move away from whoever was upstairs. I was quite miserably in the flat I lived in last year, couldn’t have been any happier to say goodbye to it haha.

  7. woah… i would jump n scream few times too if chewy keeps standing n staring like that lol

sounds like a great place.. really cool that u are doing all the moving by yourselves… hope u already feeling well…!

  8. That’s great that you are in the new house now. You can never have enough bookcases, bwahahaha.

That would have been so much work having to clean after work. 🙁 In the end it would have been worth it, because you do like the new place. 😀

Hahaha, that moving Chewbacca gift is so great. 😀

Hope you have a good time with holidays and a bit of rest after all the moving. 😀
