Life Catch-Up: From June to Now

I haven’t done a life catch-up for a while, probably because life has just been so busy. This is going to be a combined life-catch up and review of June, because it would be way too confusing to review June now. Especially considering that I can’t remember where June ended and July began.

The Barge Trip
I went on a barge trip with Andy’s family for a week in June. We traveled along the Llangollen Canal and visited different villages along the way. I found it really relaxing to just chug down the river at 4 miles an hour for the week. I did a lot of colouring, reading and playing board games, and it was great to spend time with Andy’s family. We went for a lot of lovely pub meals as well, which is always a bonus! Here are some pictures:

This last photo was taken on the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, which is basically a 126 foot tall bridge with no barrier on one side. Feared for my life.

The holiday maker gave us an in-depth explanation of every way we could possibly die on the barge, which was definitely not a very reassuring way to start a holiday. Luckily, my head didn’t get crushed like a melon against the tunnel walls, so it’s all good.

House Hunting
At the start of June we started looking round houses, even though we had no idea when we’d be moving. We viewed four, three of which were absolutely awful. One of them had a crack all the way down the bedroom wall and water all over the ceiling. Definitely not worth the money. Then we found one, fell in love with it, found out the fees were over £500 and arranged a second viewing. As it turned out, the place was crawling with fleas. I’m so glad we went to view it again, because if not we’d have ended up living with more pets than we’d ever want in our life.

Fortunately, after looking round another 3 houses, we found the most beautiful house in the world…

Last Thursday, we moved into our new home! It’s an absolutely perfect 2-bedroom house, with a lovely landlady who has clearly taken care of the place. She even asked us if we’d like TV brackets fitting before we moved in! Everything is in mint condition, which makes me partially thankful that the previous house didn’t turn out so well. This one is so much better. We have heated towel rails and the most wonderful shower in the world (I’m so old). This weekend has felt like a fairy-tale, especially considering the nightmare we had with the last property. I love, love, LOVE it!

Things Being Really Expensive
June and July have been the most expensive months of the year for me so far. I had my sister’s birthday, Mum’s birthday, Father’s Day, and we had to replace the majority of our furniture because it got ruined in the old house. I spent a fair bit of money on food during the barge trip, food at work, and just food in general. I love food!

Also, after coming back from the barge trip, I realised that my Nintendo 3DS was nowhere to be seen. I turned the house upside-down looking for it, but, even after packing everything there was no sign of it. I think I must have left it on the barge, even though the company denied having any knowledge of it. This led to me getting ridiculously upset, and Andy calming me down by making me aware of the fact I just had to move on and forget about it. So, I bought this:

Nintendo DS

I love it so much, but I still wish I’d checked my room more thoroughly before leaving.

Failing Goals
I failed on my “goals” this month. I was planning to take part in Camp NaNoWriMo again, but I only managed to do it for one day, then all the packing started. By the 2nd of the month I realised that it would be too stressful to move and write 50,000 words and I didn’t want that pressure on myself. However, I will be continuing with my novel without NaNoWrio, as I really want to finish it. And I can’t wait ’til November’s event!

I also failed to restart my “diet” after the holiday. But that was more down to the fact I really love cake, chocolate, sweets, crisps, burgers and steak and cheese rolls.

July Goals

I feel really odd making goals half-way through the month, but there are a few things I’d like to do in the last two weeks of the month.

  1. See my friends – I haven’t seen my friends in quite a while, so a catch-up is definitely in order.
  2. Actually do my tax return
  3. Sell my old laptops
  4. Complete the main story on Pokemon Y

These aren’t really big goals, but it’s been a busy couple of months. And, as I said before, there’s no point in doing something if it’s just going to make me stressed. I’m going to be going at my own pace for the next couple of months, no matter how slow that may be.

Very sorry for the long post. NEXT WEEKEND you can watch me talk in front of a camera and embarrass myself instead. It’s going to be nerve-wracking…

  1. Yay for the new move! It sounds like your new place is lovely (with an awesome landlady!).

I’m sorry to hear the loss of your Nintendo DS, but the new one looks awesome! 😀 Very colourful and more exciting looking than my pink one, haha! Seeing your DS reminds me that I need to get into gaming again. SOON.

  2. YAY for the new house! I’m so happy you were able to get out of the old place and into somewhere so much nicer, I hope it all goes well for the future!
Is your DS the Animal Crossing one? I considered buying the same one last weekend!

  3. Ooh, I would love to go on a barge trip! I’ve been on a barge, but t didn’t go very far haha.

Congratulations on finding a new house! Thank God you did view the house again, that would have been awful with the fleas. Bleurgh.

June/July has also been expensive for me! Everybody and their mothers birthday are in those months D: Still it’s been fun – need to budget now because I’m going away in august! Yeah, NaNoWriMo isn’t working out for me this month. I’ve been more busy than I thought I would be – but there’s November! I’ll give that a go ?

Good luck with your goals and can’t wait for your vlog!

  4. That is really wonderful that you have a house that worked out well. That would have been so terrible to have a house with fleas! Thankfully you were able to find out!

That’s great that you could get a new DS. 🙂

  5. The canal looks amazing! I’m glad to see that you enjoyed your vacation :). Congratulations on moving to a new house! A house is perfect when you’re comfortable with its condition to begin with. Hurray! 🙂

Expenses cna always add up quickly, but it makes sense at the end. It’s part of living :).

Good luck with your goals this month! You were busy last month, so don’t worry about not meeting your goal for Camp NaNoWriMo :).

  6. Wow, morbid of her to do that. That would make me nervous for sure, haha!

House hunting sucks. There is no denying that. I do not want to do it again for a long time. My sister had a hell of a time finding one to rent before they have to start their new jobs in a different city. Glad you actually found something though! 🙂

  7. House hunting/apartment hunting can be time consuming. It’s not easy finding a new home. Glad it worked out for you! It looks like you were very busy in June. Hope you can meet your goal of completing the NaNoWriMo novel. I’m interested in reading it 🙂 That’s great that you set monthly goals for yourself. It’s a really good habit to have. Even if you can’t complete all of them, you’re growing in the process.

  8. Congrats on moving into your new house. It took awhile for me and my husband to find a great place to move into with our dog, Marley. Eeek, I’m jealous of that new 3DS you got there! I love Animal Crossing!

  9. A barge trip down the river sounds really relaxing 🙂 And I’m so glad you found a better house! That’s great that the landlady has been taking care of things, and it sounds like she’ll be way better than your last landlord.

Oh no, that sucks that you lost your 3DS 🙁 I would be sad to lose the data. The new 3DS is super cute though! I love the Animal Crossing designed ones.

Good luck on the move and on your goals!

  10. It honestly sounds like you are so busy – I was almost exhausted reading your post! I’m glad you finally found a nice place. When we look for a place I really hope we won’t be fraught with all the disaster you’ve had with looking for one. 🙁

Totally going to watch that vlog now!
