Happy end of April day! Another month has passed and it’s honestly terrifying how fast this year is going. It seems like two minutes since I was eating garlic bread and convincing myself that this year I would become a super organised, super healthy, super motivated human being. But it’s been four whole months, and here I am, still eating takeaways and ignoring my resolutions. Oh well, at least I have pizza.
This month has been a good one. I’ve had lots of time to relax, caught up on lots of annoying household tasks and read a lot. I’ve watched 13 Reasons Why, listened to lots of Tori Amos and played quite a lot of Batman: Arkham Knight. I’ve been out to the local farm for ice cream (twice) and had some lovely days/nights out with friends and family. Overall, it’s been a fantastic month and I’m so happy!
Things I Learned In April
- Giving yourself time to relax is so important.
- Chocolate croissants are worth every calorie.
- Eating a full packet of Crispy M&Ms in one sitting is never a good idea.
- Drunk Andy will NOT clean up his own vomit no matter how many times you ask.
- But drunk Andy will cover your bathroom in water and say he’s “washing other people’s political opinions off himself”. So that’s good.
Top April Tunes
Tori Amos – Precious Things
Blutengel – Black
Lindsey Stirling – Shadows
Pentatonix and Dolly Parton – Jolene
April Goals in Review
Let’s see how I did on the goals I made myself last month! Here goes…
1. Do significant work on the novel I started last year through NaNoWriMo.
So while I didn’t do “significant” work on my novel, I did read through it and think about it a lot, which is something at least. I’m pretty much ready to start re-plotting and re-writing it, so hopefully there’ll be a lot more progress in May.
2. Write something every day.
While I’d have loved to have done this, I was still catching up on a lot of things I needed to do at the start of the month, so it had to take a backseat, unfortunately. I’m going to re-instate this goal for April though, because I love writing.
3. Blog 8 times
I actually abandoned this goal pretty early on, as I wanted to focus more on writing something other than blog posts. While I love blogging, I feel like I’ve been trying to do far too much, and it’s meant that I haven’t written any fiction in a long time. Plus, I really don’t like the pressure of blogging goals. Forcing content for content’s sake is never what this has been about for me. After reading Holly’s brilliant post, I realised that I’d rather work at my own pace and stop trying to force myself into a schedule.
4. Read 4 books
Because I’ve started reading on the bus again, I managed to read 11 books. 11 whole books. And I didn’t have to rush any of them. Go me!
Goals for May
1. Write something every day.
Because I love writing so much. This doesn’t include writing at work, as that would make it way too easy!
2. Sort out the drawers next to my bed
I’ve somehow managed to shove so much stuff into my drawers that the front has fallen off one of them. Oops. Time for a clear out, I think!
3. Re-plot my novel
Now I’ve got more of an idea where it’s going, I’m so excited to do this. A month of daydreaming about imaginary characters sounds fantastic as well.
4. Complete Pokemon Moon
I’ve had it since November and I’ve barely played it. I’m determined to complete the main game this month!
