April Goals

March is nearly over, which is strange because it seems like we moved into this house forever ago. Apparently we’ve only been here a month though. Hopefully the rest of the tenancy speeds up, because I’m tired of having to complain to our letting agent about the fact the bedroom is leaking. It’s so annoying.

For April, I’m setting myself a few goals, because I’ve been really bad at disciplining myself to do anything at all after work. Apart from eat loads of chocolate and drink loads of Pepsi. Which, although an absolutely amazing skill that I should regularly applaud myself for, is not a good use of my time. No matter how many time I insist that emptying the cupboards is technically cleaning.

1. Camp NaNoWriMo

On my 24 by 24 goals, I mentioned that I wanted to succeed at NaNoWriMo. Unfortunately, I missed the main month, because I ended up having to sort out a mouldy flat and spent most of the month stressing instead of writing. My birthday’s also awkwardly placed at the start of November, so that automatically writes off a couple of days. So, in order to complete this goal, I’m taking part in Camp NaNoWriMo, and I’m determined to make 50,000 words within April. I already have an idea that I’m ridiculously excited about, so hopefully it should all go well!

2. A month without chocolate

So, in February I made it through 18 days without chocolate, then accidentally bought Ben and Jerry’s at the cinema. It all went down hill from there, and I ended up reverting to my usual habit of treating chocolate like it’s air. So I’m going cold turkey again. If I accidentally eat a full box of After Eights I’ll let you know.

3. Sell my unwanted devices

I’m the sort of person who never gets rid of anything. I own clothes that don’t fit me, books that I never intend to read and shoes that have seen better days. Oh, and I also have 3 laptops and 5 phones. That’s every device I’ve ever had since I was 16. I’m now 23. After discovering my house is leaking, I made the decision to sort this out, so I can know exactly what I have and therefore will look after it better. It’s going to take a lot of time to remove all the files from these devices, but it WILL be done.

4. Open a help to buy ISA account

So, in the UK, the government have started a scheme to help first time buyers get a mortgage. House prices over here are ridiculous, which makes it really difficult to get on the property ladder. A help to buy ISA is a bank account that the government contributes to, in order to help with this. They give you 25% of what you pay in, as long as the money is going to be used on a deposit for a house. As I REALLY want a house, this is a no-brainer. I really need to get into gear and get saving.

5. Learn to play a new song on the keyboard

I’ve been meaning to do this for ages – I just haven’t decided on a song yet! I have no idea what to choose, but I have a whole month to do it in so hopefully I’ll be able to make a decision in that time.

Now I’m off to eat as much chocolate as possible before Friday.

What are your goals for this month?

  1. My goals are not to spend anything without my husband’s consent, keep on top of my essays from Biology and Government. Plus, just keep watching what I am eating and lose the weight 😀 Pretty interesting goals, really.

  2. Oooh, I love that you’re doing camp Nanowrimo! I’ve never participated in the camp event, but I did it in November for four years (maybe five?) and I loved doing it. I didn’t participate last year because I just didn’t have the motivation and wasn’t finding myself very inspired. But maybe next year. I wish you the best and try to get as much writing in the first few days done as you can! It makes slow days much easier later in the month!

I’m really bad at keeping certain files on different devices. I really need to consolidate all of the files onto one. I have some pictures and documents on an old desktop computer that I’ve used since I was 12! Kudos to you for getting this done!

I’ve never heard of the help to buy ISA. I think that’s awesome that they have a program like that to help first time buyers. Take advantage of that girl!!

  3. I love the fact that you’re going to participate in Nanowriting! I have thought about it myself, but I don’t know what to write about, honestly. I wish you nothing but success with that.

Ouch! I hate mouldy places, and I hope you get it straightened out soon.

I really like your goals. I only have one goal at the moment besides getting my Journeyman certificate in web development and associates degree, and that’s reading 20 books before the end of the year. I think I’m on an okay path, and if I keep it up, I will definitely have read 20 books by the end of the year.

  4. Good luck with all your goals! The chocolate one would be so difficult for me! I love those things so much that if I had to give them up, I’d be a very unhappy person XD;

Also, good luck with learning to play a new song! Do let us know what you song you chose to practise and learn. I’m awfully curious on what you’ll play! ^^

  5. I have been always wanting to finish Nanowrimo. Too bad I can’t find the perfect time and perfect plot.

I have also been planning to sell a lot of stuffs at home because let’s face it, we don’t really use a lot of them. Hopefully, someone would buy them.

  6. Good luck with your goals! I’ve never completed a NaNoWriMo challenge, and I really admire those who can trudge through it!

I pass on my old devices to my mom and younger sister. They seem more than happy to take them off my hands, so I can profit off old devices unfortunately! I’ve been thinking of upgrading my Macbook. If I do, my sister will be taking the one I have now. :3

  7. Good luck with all your goals! I should get rid of some of my old devices too. Unfortunately, a few are so old, no one would probably buy them, so I need to find an electronics recycling place.

Avoiding something you love is hard, but I hope you’ll be able to do your no-chocolates goal this time! I have done it with soda before, and it was hard for me to get out of the habit of grabbing a can to drink.

My goal is to finish my cosplay this month, so I can start on my next one!

  8. Good luck with your goals! I’m so similar, I never get rid of things I don’t use anymore. I really should – so much extra money could be made!

For this month I really just need to get my head down, revising for upcoming exams.

  9. Best of luck with all your goals Amy! I believe in you!! :”) I’m not sure of whatNaNoWriM is but it looks like a huge task, again, best of luck with it, I’m sure you’ll do it and share the experience with us all once you have! 🙂

I’ve been selling my unwanted devices recently! It’s always nice to de-clutter even with devices because surprisingly one device can do everything my old ones couldnt! xD

  10. I was always curious about what Camp NaNoWriMo was about, but…ah, I see it now. Good luck with reading 50k words!

The idea of an ISA is awesome! It’s too bad the US doesn’t do something similar for at least apartments, because it seems like it could really help people a lot.

Good luck on your goals! 🙂

  11. I disapprove of your goal of not eating chocolate for a month A few days? sure. A week? I’d be OK with that? A month? Yeah, I’d die. Don’t deprive yourself of being happy, Amy. 🙂

  12. Damn I hate when I set myself a goal and it goes downhill. You did really well though, just keep going! Don’t let one serving throw you off for the rest of the month. It’s about intake really. If you eat less it’s still an achievement. Going cold turkey can be really hard for some things.

I find it crazy that you have kept a lot from your teenage years, mostly because you must have had to move them to where you live now, right? I’m not sure actually, since I can’t remember how many times you’ve moved. I’ve lived in the same house (with my parents) for over 20 years and I now have a mentality that I don’t want to move a heap of stuff when I move out, so I try and get rid of what I don’t wear, use, or need.

We have some kind of first-buyer loan here in Australia which I should definitely use if I need. Hahahah.
