Life Catch-Up: June 2017

And the prize for the prettiest drink of the month goes to…

Because I spent most of June planning for my holiday and being on holiday, it’s gone by really fast. It was a month of birthdays, celebrations, buying lots of presents and spending lots of money. I visited Handmade Burger Company for the first time ever and had the best falafel burger in the world, went to Wetherspoons once for my mum’s birthday and again for my sister’s birthday, and had pizza for Father’s Day (while my Dad built a fence outside haha). I spent the best week in Scotland with some amazing friends, almost watched my friend get engaged, and made memories that will last a lifetime. It’s been a such a fun-filled month that I don’t even mind that my diet has been ignored again. It’s been brilliant!

In terms of my yearly goals, I didn’t make much progress. I did hardly any exercise, ate whatever I wanted and didn’t even attempt to organise this blog. I did somehow manage to meet my savings target for the month, though, despite all the holiday and birthday spending!

Anyway, here’s the usual monthly breakdown of favourites, goals and other such things. Enjoy!

June Tunes

Korn feat. Skrillex – Get Up!
The Killers – Bones
Vengaboys – Boom Boom Boom Boom
Jason Webley – Icarus

What I Watched in June

Most of the things on this list I’d already seen before, but it’s always good to re-watch old favourites!

  • Waterloo Road
  • Trollied
  • Howl’s Moving Castle
  • Kiki’s Delivery Service
  • The Full Monty
  • 500 Days of Summer

What I Learned in June

  • That you shouldn’t let fear stop you from doing something you want. Unless you want to bungee jump off a cliff while strapped to a dinosaur. Because that would be silly.
  • That you can miss your friend getting proposed to you one metre away if you’re trying to take a decent selfie.
  • Strangers can actually be really nice and not at all scary.
  • Log cabins are actually made of logs.

Reviewing My June Goals

Because I thought it would help me actually complete something, I only made one goal for June, which was to organise Mamyology. I planned to set aside a weekend to do this, but unfortunately (or fortunately) ended up making plans on every single one. Oh well!

Goals For July

I’m making three big goals for July. It’ll be a major challenge, but hopefully I can manage it.

1. Organise Mamyology
This is the same goal I set myself last month, but hopefully this month I’ll have a free weekend!

2. Write 50,000 words for Camp NaNoWriMo
Having missed April’s Camp NaNoWriMo, due to not being prepared enough, I’m definitely taking part in July’s challenge. If you don’t know, NaNoWriMo is an event which challenges writers to complete 50,000 words of a writing project in one month. Last year I managed to reach 44,000, which was so close! Hopefully I’ll smash 50K this year!

3. Blog twice a week
Because I’ve rarely had time to blog these past few months, I decided to set myself this challenge to push me to make more time for blogging. I’ve already made a content plan for the entire month, so maybe I’ll succeed at this!

June In Figures

Weight lost: Let’s not.
Books read: 1
Exercise done: I now walk half the way home sometimes. 45 minute walks FTW!
Blogs posted: 3
Money saved: Β£304

I already have lots of plans for July, including seeing Spider-Man: Homecoming, going to London for Hyper Japan festival and going out for my friend’s birthday, so no doubt it will fly by!

How was your month?

P.S. I’m planning to do a Q&A soon, so it would be really lovely if you could ask me a few questions in the comments below. Please and thank you!

  1. Even though you didn’t make much progress, you had a great month with travel, views, and surrounding yourself with great people!

Strangers are not always scary. I mean there are a few that are just mean or scary but there are plenty of nice strangers out there- given that you were nice to begin with. I avoided strangers for a long time and started to open up a bit recently.

There’s always July to organize Mamyology! Good luck with writing 50k words for Camp NaNoWriMo and blogging twice a week! I can’t wait to see the new Spider-Man movie! I love how there’s the Marvel kiss to it.

  2. You didn’t know that log cabins were made of logs? I love log cabins and think they are so pretty. I probably wouldn’t want to live in one though.

Good luck on your goals! I’m sure you can make at least half of them. The writing challenge sounds fun and something I would have done when I was younger and more creative.

I had a pretty good month. I got to go camping which is always the highlight of my summer. I’m hoping to get in one more trip before the summer is over.

  3. June is the same way for me. I’ve literally been busy the entire month and had three birthdays to celebrate. It looks like July is going to be busy for me as well since I have a gender reveal party and birthday party to go to, and my beach vacation is coming up in a few weeks.

I think blogging twice a week is a good amount, although it sucks when you run out of ideas and aren’t sure what to post. At least you’ve brainstormed some ideas. When I got back into blogging, I was sure I wouldn’t have anything to post, but I’ve somehow been finding things to write about every few days.

  4. Sounds like you’ve done a lot of fun things in June and with a lot of good food! That’s a good month to me. I think you should count June as a cheat month, which we all need sometimes πŸ˜‰ Good job on the savings goal though!

Good luck on your July goals! Sounds it’ll be another fun month!

  5. I love the concept of this post. I might actually start doing something of this nature. I feel inspired. πŸ™‚

I never have anything interesting to post, let alone blogging twice a week. There was a time when I used to blog almost every day – back in High School and my early 20s when life was a lot more interesting and I was clearly more spontaneous.

Honestly, June was a rough one for me. Spent most of it bedridden due to my chronic pain. I’ve been dealing with a flare-up since June 8th and I’m still struggling. :/

    My Q&A question(s):
What is your most prized possession?
What is your favorite Summer activity?

  6. Great post! I really like the idea of reviewing the month and setting new goals for the next month. I should probably start doing that, too! Thanks for sharing!

  7. You obviously had a busy month! I’m glad you got to do some travelling, and it sounds like you really enjoyed yourself.

June was really busy for me as well, but that was due to course work and occupation. We’re always really busy in summer months at work here. Winter, thankfully isnt anywhere near as hectic, so I cannot WAIT until fall/winter!

I also watched KiKi’s Delivery Service this month, then again I watch it a lot because I think it really is one of the better Studio Ghibi films. It’s just a lot shorter than most.

  8. So glad to hear that you have had a great time. πŸ˜€ You should be so proud that you have been able to meet your savings target! πŸ˜€ *high five*

Good luck in July with the goals. πŸ˜€

  9. Sounds like you’ve had a great month even if your goals took a bit of a back seat! Congrats on your savings goal for this month, I really need to do this! I got a nice bonus in my end of June pay packet and have put it away for LFCC in July so that’s something, but I want to work on an emergency fund.

    Questions
What was your first comic con?
How are you going to organise your blog? Do you have a game pls?

  10. June was also a quick month for me, as I was running around on trips and super busy with everything. It seems like yours was quite fun, though! I love your music recs for the monthly wrap-up. I wish I knew more songs and artists, but in the end, I just end up subscribing to thematic playlists on Spotify and calling it a day! Lol. (Congrats on saving that 400 Pounds!)
    (I think we’re Theme-Buddies! XD LOL.)

  11. There’s nothing wrong with having a month where you don’t accomplish anything major. We all need a “break” so to you, but from what I can see, you had some great experience in June πŸ™‚ You did your travels, and you got to see your friend get proposed — I say those are still good accomplishments/events.

Hope you meet your July goal!

  12. “had pizza for Father’s Day (while my Dad built a fence outside haha” < this made me snort, bless his heart!

Also, hello WHO is Jason Webley and am I related to him because we have the same surname?! IS THIS MY CLAIM TO FAME!!!!???!?!?!?!

"That you can miss your friend getting proposed to you one metre away if you’re trying to take a decent selfie." < LMFAO, this would totally happen to me as well.

I know it's the end of July now, so I hope you smashed your goals for this month! <3
