Life Catch-Up: April 2017

A sheep
Hello and welcome to this month’s Life Catch-Up . Here’s a photo of a sheep to get things started. Because sheep are cool.

Happy end of April day! Another month has passed and itโ€™s honestly terrifying how fast this year is going. It seems like two minutes since I was eating garlic bread and convincing myself that this year I would become a super organised, super healthy, super motivated human being. But itโ€™s been four whole months, and here I am, still eating takeaways and ignoring my resolutions. Oh well, at least I have pizza.

This month has been a good one. I’ve had lots of time to relax, caught up on lots of annoying household tasks and read a lot. I’ve watched 13 Reasons Why, listened to lots of Tori Amos and played quite a lot of Batman: Arkham Knight. I’ve been out to the local farm for ice cream (twice) and had some lovely days/nights out with friends and family. I’ve

On Friday, I went to my best friend’s engagement party and had such a lovely time. I got to spend time with all my friends from high school, which I don’t get to do enough anymore. We had lots of food, lots of drinks and danced to some great party songs. My best friend did a speech, gave me a beautiful ribbon to announce what colour sash I’ll be wearing at her wedding (orange!) and announced the wedding date. I was super emotional. We’re all so grown up now and I just can’t believe how quickly time is passing. I’m definitely going to cry so much next year!

Oh, and I’m chief of the bridesmaids now. Just saying…

After the party, we went back to my friends’ house for an “after party” which involved drinking games, leftover party food and Andy getting hilariously drunk. Have you ever watched a fully-grown adult cover their hands, shirt and face in sour cream then say “that’s what happens when you eat sour cream, Amy” when you call them out on it? Yeah, I’m never taking him to McDonald’s again.

Overall, it’s been a fantastic month and I’m so happy!

Things I Learned In April

  • Giving yourself time to relax is so important.
  • Chocolate croissants are worth every calorie.
  • Eating a full packet of Crispy M&Ms in one sitting is never a good idea.
  • Drunk Andy will NOT clean up his own vomit no matter how many times you ask.
  • But drunk Andy will cover your bathroom in water and say he’s “washing other people’s political opinions off himself”. So that’s good.

April Goals in Review

Let’s see how I did on the goals I made myself last month! Here goes…

1. Do significant work on the novel I started last year through NaNoWriMo.
So while I didn’t do “significant” work on my novel, I did read through it and think about it a lot, which is something at least. I’m pretty much ready to start re-plotting and re-writing it, so hopefully there’ll be a lot more progress in May.

2. Write something every day.
While I’d have loved to have done this, I was still catching up on a lot of things I needed to do at the start of the month, so it had to take a backseat, unfortunately. I’m going to re-instate this goal for April though, because I love writing.

3. Blog 8 times
I actually abandoned this goal pretty early on, as I wanted to focus more on writing something other than blog posts. While I love blogging, I feel like I’ve been trying to do far too much, and it’s meant that I haven’t written any fiction in a long time. Plus, I really don’t like the pressure of blogging goals. Forcing content for content’s sake is never what this has been about for me. After reading Holly’s brilliant post, I realised that I’d rather work at my own pace and stop trying to force myself into a schedule.

4. Read 4 books
Because I’ve started reading on the bus again, I managed to read 11 books. 11 whole books. And I didn’t have to rush any of them. Go me!

Goals for May

1. Write something every day.
Because I love writing so much. This doesn’t include writing at work, as that would make it way too easy!

2. Sort out the drawers next to my bed
I’ve somehow managed to shove so much stuff into my drawers that the front has fallen off one of them. Oops. Time for a clear out, I think!

3. Re-plot my novel
Now I’ve got more of an idea where it’s going, I’m so excited to do this. A month of daydreaming about imaginary characters sounds fantastic as well.

4. Complete Pokemon Moon
I’ve had it since November and I’ve barely played it. I’m determined to complete the main game this month!

  1. I always love gatherings and seeing all my old friends and classmates from school. Although it’s been a lot less time since I last saw them, it’s always awesome to see them and catch up. I can’t imagine going to their engagement party and seeing them get married though! But the time will come eventually but it’s crazy – like we all used to just be in Art class together putting stuff up for our GCSE exams, and now y’all getting married?! WHAT!? xD

I’m so glad you had an amazing month! Catching up with friends is always awesome. “Chocolate croissants are worth every calorie.” Preach it, sister. Always. ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผ

Blogging should always come naturally otherwise when it’s forced, it’s no longer fun or gets the message you want across. ๐Ÿ’–

    1. I can’t believe how quickly the time goes either. Seems just two minutes since we were doing out A-Levels!

  2. Haha nice sheep!

Aww that’s so sweet you got to see your old friends, and best of luck to you being the maid of honor! I recently got to see my friend got married, but I didn’t know her long enough to reminisce, but I still cried when she walked in because she was such a beautiful bride!

I love Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix. Just sayin’

I’m gonna hit up Holly’s Slow Blogging post after this to see if that describes me.

And I got Pokemon Moon to prepare for my Asia trip in January, only my 3DS couldn’t charge overseas and I haven’t gotten very far! I’m enjoying using some of the newer Pokemon though!

    ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Oh, wow! That’s such an honour to be a chief bridesmaid ๐Ÿ™‚ I didn’t even know such a thing existed!

Sounds like April was a good month for you ๐Ÿ™‚ Even though you didn’t meet some of your goals, at least you realise that some goals don’t need to be accomplished if it becomes a chore! 11 books is a great amount! Reading is always a good thing.

    Have a good May! ^^

  4. I’m glad you were able to relax. I wish weekends could be longer for relaxing. I think 3 day weekends would be great at least once a month. XD
I haven’t finished Sun either, I’ve been too busy playing FF Explorers. And I also rediscovered ACNL and my town needed some love. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think I might want to get a new 2DS! I love that they made it a clamshell body and I don’t even use the 3D function on my 3DS now, so I wouldn’t miss that. Who know? I’ll just have to wait and see.

Chief of Bridesmaids sounds like a cool title! Embrace it.

    1. I love ACNL. I used to travel to other people’s towns every evening and it was so fun! I really miss playing it!

I don’t even know why the 3D function exists. I hate it! I only bought it for the clamshell body. Glad they’re finally doing a 2D clamshell!

  5. Congratulations to your best friend on her engagement! Glad to hear that you enjoyed the party. The sash looks awesome!

I agree that giving yourself time to relax is super important. I found myself to be pretty grumpy because I don’t have enough “me” time.
Me: hissss I don’t want to talk
    :’)

Working at your own pace is better than forcing yourself. That way, you get a better quality output because you’re *relaxed*.

Good luck with your goals for May! Good job on your accomplishments this month!

  6. That’s awesome! Yeah, you can learn so much in a month about yourself and your SO. Though drunk Andy sounds really funny but being drunk isn’t fun at all, even if I have never been and never will. Regardless, what did you think of 13 Reasons Why? I am on episode 3 and it’s interesting. I am cautious though.

    1. I thought 13 Reasons Why was okay, but I did have a few issues with it. I found the pace to be quite slow, for one, and some of the story didn’t quite fit for me.

  7. I’m glad April was a good month for you! Taking the time to relax is definitely important and can make such a big difference in how you feel ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s great that you were able to spend time with old friends, though not so great on the cleaning up vomit part!

I agreed with Holly’s post, too, about blogging at your own pace. I think it’s fine if some people prefer a schedule, but for me, it’s a lot less stressful when I just take things as it comes. There’s no need to force yourself if it starts feeling like a chore! I’m also amazed that you finished 11 books in a month. Nice job on that goal!

Good luck on your May goals!

  8. That sheep is definitely cool.

Sounds like you had a wonderful April. I remember you posting on Insta about being chief of bridesmaids! That is so exciting. I can’t believe we’re at that age where people are thinking about getting married/engaged/already married. I’m noooooooot ready for that sort of commitment, haha.

I’m glad you’ve had time to relax, though, because that is always important. Thought on 13RW? I really enjoyed it and the acting was amazing, but I also have my reservations.

Hahaha, drunk!Andy sounds hilarious. I wouldn’t want to be near him when he’s near the sour cream, though. Lol. โ€œwashing other peopleโ€™s political opinions off himself – I’m CRYING, hahahaha.

Why is novel writing so hard, Amy? ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Good luck with your goals for May! And I loved Tara’s post on you <3

    1. I know, I don’t know where the years have gone! It seems like two minutes since I was in high school!

I though 13 Reasons Why was okay, but I found the pace to be quite slow, and had a few issues with how things were done. Clay’s story was in the wrong place, and it didn’t make sense to put him after the big reveals for me.

  9. I am so glad that April wrnt that good for you. Reading about spending time with you friends makes me thibk that I lost touch eith nost of ny high school frienda. I guess we just moved on from each other and we have other people in our lives now. .

I know the weird things that happen when people get drunk. It is so funny. Me and my friends have so many memories from parties and everything. We always have some “brilliant ideas” end we end up making fools out of ourselves.

I agree to not put preasure regardin blogging ideas. Actually I realized that putting pressure on yourself in a lot of situations isn’t good. Things turj out better when you do them because you enjoy doing them and you feel like it.

I hope May will be good to you <3. Take care.

  10. When I saw Pentatonix and Dolly Parton โ€“ Jolene I had to go and listen to it right away. I love it!

Food. It’s what Iive for. It is so hard to eat healthy orz

Good luck with your goals, I don’t even set up goals so I don’t disappoint myself, haha.
