Life Catch-Up: I Want to Create

I’ve written four post drafts this week, which makes me feel like I’m finally getting back into blogging again. It’s been so long since I’ve written more than one post in a week, and I’m really happy because of it. I used to blog regularly when I was in school/sixth form, but then life got hectic (and boring, in my opinion), so I stopped writing as much. Even though I have limited free time, I’ve realised that if I manage that time effectively (and block Facebook) I can still do the things I’d like to do.

This week’s been a tiring one. For some reason, I thought I was superwoman and could get through the week on five hours sleep a night. I managed to get through the working week without feeling any negative effects, but right now I’m ready to give up on my to-do list and fall asleep. At 4pm. I am clearly not a superhero!

Last Sunday, me and Andy went to our favourite Chinese restaurant for a 3-course meal, as we felt like we deserved a break from cooking for a night. We’ve both been going there since we were really young – before we even knew each other! I had shredded duck in plum sauce for my main course, and it was absolutely amazing. I ended up over-eating, as usual, but I have absolutely no regrets. Good food shouldn’t be wasted!

We’ve also had updates on the house situation this week. Basically, we’ve been told the landlord isn’t responding, so it looks like we won’t be getting anything fixed after all. It’s so annoying. We’re having to pay to live somewhere that isn’t fit to live in, and we can’t get out of the contract for another three months. I just want a house that I can be proud[ of, and enjoy life in, not somewhere where I have to fight to not sleep under a leaking ceiling.

Anyway, back to happy stuff. Yesterday was pay day, so I ended up splurging on a few presents for myself. I bought five books and a Pokemon plush from Amazon, and also bought these lovely things today:

Pay Day Treat

I’m so excited to use the pens on the adult colouring book I got for Christmas! And can’t wait to read the books too!

This morning I went to see ‘The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness’ – a really cool documentary about Studio Ghibli, which was being shown as part of Bradford Literature Festival. It focuses on the working routines and lives of the people who work at Studio Ghibli, and was really interesting to watch. The way they create their films is amazing – they draw each frame by hand and have to make sure it fits in line with the previous frame. Definitely a lot of patience and skill required!

The documentary makes me want to write more, draw more and generally “create” more. It reminded me why I got into a creative industry, and why I love to write. It’s so magical seeing something from your head come to life, be that in words, watercolours or even dance!

If anyone’s been enticed by my bad descriptions of things, ‘The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness’ is available to buy on Amazon. It’s definitely worth a watch if you’re a fan of Studio Ghibli or are interested in film production in general.

Also, finally, I entered Kya’s giveaway today. You should really check it out. The prizes are beyond amazing!

  1. I’m not the biggest fan of stationary all the much, but I wish people luck in going in and winning!~ That’s awesome you got some new things and treated yourselves out to dinner. Sounds yummy, honestly.

  2. Ah! I would be tired with 5 hours of sleep a night! I did that a lot in college, but sigh, those days are gone. I need at least 6 hours now.

It’s good to treat yourself once in a while 🙂 The dinner sounds tasty, and yay for buying some new things for yourself! I especially like buying things for myself online. When it comes in later, it feels like a gift, even though I was the one who paid for it, haha.

Sorry to hear that your landlord still isn’t doing something about your ceiling problem though 🙁 That is so frustrating!

Oohh, that Ghibli documentary sounds really interesting. I’m going to have to check it out. I really love the works that Studio Ghibli put out, and I’m actually going to the Ghibli museum in Japan later this year. (I had to book tickets 3 months in advance!) I just added that documentary to my Netflix list!

  3. I’m so excited to get back into blogging for the summer. Like you, I plan on blogging quite frequently in a week! 🙂 Let’s power through it together 😉

I’m so sorry to hear about your house, it seems like it’s been such a long time now. I hope you get everything fixed and sorted as soon as possible. If it were me, I would be complaining 24/7 until something is immediately done haha! I tend to do that.

Ooo pay day treats! I love those pens, it reminds me I need to restock on some new ones very soon. Mines all run out from the creative drawings of revision! D:

  4. I thought there would be more time to blog once you’re done with school XD. We all have to rest at some point whether we like it or not XD. That’s always my situation @___@ .

It sounds like the Chinese food was delicious! Glad to hear that you enjoyed it :).

Hope something can be done with the housing situaiton. Is there a way to report an unsafe living condition somewhere?

    Good luck with the giveaway!

  5. It sounds like you two deserve a break. Chinese sounds so good right now, it makes me want to order some for takeout. 😛 But I’m glad you guys got to have a nice night out.

How frustrating. I can’t understand how the landlord wouldn’t be responsible for a ROOF. That seems like a necessary and essential part of the home that you are renting. I’m sorry you have to deal with that. 🙁 Hopefully you can manage some easy fixes until you guys can find somewhere else to live.

That documentary about Studio Ghibli sounds awesome! I haven’t seen all of their films, but I’ve loved all of them. They are all so beautiful so it would be really interest to see how they create them.

  6. Yes, time management is the key to doing things, haha! I have my days when I just stay on Facebook or something, but then I remind myself to be more productive by doing other things than just scrolling endlessly on Facebook and other sites like Buzzfeed. Anyway, like you, I blogged way more in high school/secondary school, but once I hate uni . . . yeah, my blogging mojo kind of teetered off XD

Those are some nice stash! Do share your colouring pages when you complete them :3

    Good luck with Kya’s giveaway!

  7. I hear you, Chinese food is my absolute favourite. There is a small Chinese buffet restaurant near where I live and when I visit (which I try to make not too often) I always over eat. It just has to be done ha.

Be sure to show your completed colourings, I’m so tempted to buy one of those adult colouring books, let me know how they are 🙂

Great site, and have a wonderful week.

  8. There’s something about the spring/summer that brings out the blogger in me, again. Anyway… yay for post drafts! I love doing them, cause I feel super productive afterwards. Haven’t done a draft in a while, to be fair.

How annoying about your landlord! I hope you get it sorted out soon 🙁

There’s this blog I’ve been reading (befrassy.net) that has made me want to be more creative as well. She’s actually made me realise again why I wanted to be a writer in the first place. I feel out of touch with my goals, and it’s frustrating. Good luck with Kya’s giveaway!

  9. I haven’t cooked a really decent meal since I started college. I know, bad Jamie. So no worries about not being able to blog for awhile, some times it’s hard to blog about everything and anything! Some times, I feel like it’s a bit forced on my end. I don’t know understand why.

I LOVE Chinese food, and I believe half of America and elsewhere does too! I’ve yet to try duck, though. I’ve had a lot of Chinese food in my life-time, but I’ve never tried duck. I guess some times I just go with what others are eating at the time or whomever is paying for it. Ya know? Can’t be picky when others are offering to pay for something. Though, I’ve had something that wasn’t quite tasty. I don’t remember what it was called, but I do know it was not my favorite among the Chinese dishes. It was like a medley of seafood with noodles or something like that. Still, not a fan. One day, I will have to try duck.

I just got done with Rainbow Rowell’s book “Eleanor and Park.” I loved it! No wonder why she won the award that she had won. Rowell deserves that award. Ya know? Very well written. Right now, I’m reading “The Wardon,” by Margaret Roux. I’ve read her other books “Asylum,” “Catacomb,” “Sanctuary,” “The Bone Collectors,” and “The Scarletts.” I think Roux is a fantastic writer and I love her books. I would highly recommend them to you. Also another good book that I had to read for Philosophy was “Anthem.” It’s only 89 pages. It’s a dystopian society that rules out the word I. You should read it, if you haven’t already!

  10. So glad you’ll be blogging more! I really can’t wait to get back into it too, life can definitely just get so hectic sometimes!

Also, so great that you’ve been inspired. I feel the same too, I just want to create! Best of luck with everything. 🙂

  11. Whoa. I don’t think I could manage to do anything on five hours sleep. I can understand why you would need to fall asleep!

It’s nice to have a treat and it sounds like the restaurant was worth it. 😀

Wow, that is so horrible that the landlord has stopped responding. That is so wrong. I hope since your post you have had some progress with it! Make sure you take photos as evidence and have records of calls you have tried to make.

Your purchases look so great! 😀 <3

Thanks for sharing the giveaway. Sorry that you didn't win. 🙁
